Hi Tony,
Feeding 2 signals into one input and 2 into another is almost guaranteed to
give you wierd pictures as they would be travelling on 2 different cables
and would almost certainly be of differing lengths. That would mean 2
colours arriving before or after the other colour and sync. It would look
like a badly printed magazine.
Audio and Video require different components with the video grade
components
being considerably more expensive. Add to that the extra parts required to
make it switchable and the cost would leap dramatically.
S-Video and Stereo is an acceptable compromise for most people but I fully
appreciate that some people will want to switch RGB and even VGA sources. I
am designing it so that a parallel switching board can be added to handle
RGBS. This would be controllable either independantly or linked with an
existing source.
That gives the ability to route 8 signals to a room
S-Video + Stereo over one cable
RGBS for Video only over a second cable.
For people with an AV room the S-Video + Stereo could feed the TV and
Surround sound system with the RGB feed going to the projector etc.
Got to go now.... received a new PIC Basic development system yesterday to
spped up the software development and need to learn how to use it.

Subject: [KAT5] If all 4 channels in a KAT5 unit are video......
.....would that make them suitable for audio also?
If not, would it be easy to make them switchable?
I was thinking that 1 would like to be able to route RGB around the
place and in the KAT5 Switched world, 1 and a half sources would give me
RGB + audio to 1 and a half output zones. Okay, so I've now reduced the
capacity of the switcher, but I have gained in terms of picture
quality.....
Recalling what keith said before about routing any of the 4 signal paths
anywhere, I guess maybe I can achieve this by say feeding R and G and
the audio into source1, and the B and Sync into the video lines of
source 2?
(Thus keeping with the 2 video + 2 audio feeds the switcher can
definitely do)
The thing then would be to set up the switcher such that routing source
1 to output 1 also routes source 2 to output 2.
Plausible?
Cheers,
Tony
