IR will work whatever type of signal you send over it

Xantech sends the entire IR carrier signal whereas KAT5 demodulates the
signal and regenerates the carrier at the distant end.

Also Xantech equipment is 12V whereas the KAT5 IR receivers are 5v. Xantech
also unconventionally use the sleeve of a 3.5mm jack for +12v whereas most
other devices use the sleeve as 0V or ground so you cant plug Xantech
recievers into it. You can however use Xantech emitters.
