I have been watching the discussion about reinventing HA to suit the UK
with
some interest. As an importer & distributor of HA in Australia I like
to
keep track of things in other countries that use 240V 50Hz, instead of that
silly US stuff. I feel the need to comment on the concept of using hardwire
systems, inventing multi layer comms protocols, using PC's as the main
controllers (it's the only bit of consumer electronics with a reset
button!!!)Etc.

Have you ever heard of Cebus? It provides all the transmission capability
needed. Runs on almost any medium (wire, IR, RF, power lines), at
reasonable
speed, with positive feedback, and can be used from a growing range of
dedicated HA controllers. Check out http://www.cebus.org
