It needn't be problematic, but will _always_ be harder than comms down a
dedicate line.

It could work as a local thing, between wall socket and appliance, but if
everything else is working towards making the power line cleaner, then it's
fighting a losing battle.

Yes, 50Hz, +/- about 1% ;-)

Filters are never perfect, but yes basically.  You still get interference
from your own house and suppression soaking up the signals.  Your filter
will probably soak up some of their signals as well, which isn't very
nice...

They have proposed it, but are being restrained by the IEE among others,
who point out that the cables used for carrying mains electricity are not
suitable for data- with leaks at every cable join and radiated energy along
the route... I hope they succeed in keeping the system as a prototype until
something improves drastically.

It is- you can run mains on them... I just had a funny thought after my
last posting- if people aren't happy having 2 plugs for things, how come so
many have portable phones 8-) - they're supposed to make for less cables,
but they need 2 (mains and phone) to plug in!
