I've not read either of them, what are you hoping to learn from them?  If
it's general things about 'what you can do with home automation', I can't
help much, except to suggest a few days intensive web browsing(!), but if
it's how to wire everything up, and install stuff, there are some useful
resources about.  Personally, I try to avoid the 'for dummies' books, the
ones I've seen only seem to have a 7 day useful life- ie you read them
cover to cover, learn some new stuff, that's the end of it, but some folk
like them.

If you do have an idea of what you want to learn about, maybe someone here
can suggest a useful place to start?
