In preparation for my DSl install next week, I've been setting up an old
Pac
Bell 486SX33 as a firewall/router. Someone gave me a DX266, along with a
CPU
fan.

At the moment, this machine is silent. I've disconnected the power supply
fan
as one of the bearings had gone, and it made a hell of a racket. The CPU
fan is
also too large to clip over the socket that the CPU clips into, so falls
off
when I try to mount it vertically.

My question is this, it's that long since I used these things, I can't
remember
if the CPU _needs_ the fan, or if it's just their to be safe. Anyone know?
