Given the extortionate cost of MP3 multi room jukeboxes (like 1000 per
zone)
I'm interested in the feasibility of rolling your own. A SBC seems the way
to go, but you need to be able to decode several (like 4, 6 or 8) MP3
streams simultaneously. This would also require several sound cards as
well
as a CPU capable of handling the decoding workload. I'm guessing that 2
rooms would be possible, but 4, 6 or even 8....? Amplification is
relatively cheap assuming you use commercially available ICs and power
transistors (MOSFET?) and someone like Keith/Nigel to explain!!! With
serial lcd/vfd displays available, you can display title/track info around
the house and control the system. Just need some clever programming, and
good design skills to create wife-friendly keypads/displays that seamlessly
blend in with the decor and look like something that cost thousands. One
day maybe.....
