I asked my wife about this at lunchtime, and her idea is that you go for
the same approach with the switch as you did with the mirror ball- keep
nagging her to buy you one, she'll go out and buy exactly the same switch,
as that's all that is available, and give it to you as a birthday/christmas
present eventually.   She will then be powerless to complain when you use
it...

This is all terribly complicated stuff, it makes underwater acoustic
communications look quite straightforward ;-)
