Re: SK8000 Home security kit from Laser - any good ?

Hi Ian,

I have the HTS1000 which is the HomeTech (Maplin) version of the SK8000.
It was very easy to install and works very well. I've never had a false
alarm. It may not be the most secure system (subject to radio jamming
but how do they know to jam unless I put stickers in the window) but it
is better than nothing and a determined thief will get in anyway. You
may need to discard the 9 volt batteries supplied and replace them with
any alkaline brand, I use Sainsbury or Tesco, each last at least 12
months. The X10 remote control works very well, I use an 8in1
controller, several X10 RF controllers and 2 keyfobs. Check the RF
frequency of the SK8000, it may be 418 which is going out of fashion
(all new RF modules are 433) so you may which to purchase extra 418
units while stocks last. I use the system in conjunction with a CM12U
(computer interface) which has some inbuilt macros and also uses the
computer for voice control of the lights and my mp3 music collection.

As I said it may not be the most sophisticated system available but it
is cheap and functional. I would also recommend Laser Business Systems
without hesitation, they have always provided me with a first class
service.

Alex.
