500m might be ok over open ground. My house isn't 500m long, so it's
hard to tell - I get 11MBps everywhere. Performance degrades
gracefully over distance - from memory, I think the quoted range is
200m (same sort of range as DECT).

With a bit of imagination on the routing table front, it would be
easy to set up repeaters.

The PCI card would also lend itself to remote installation of the
aerial, if that helps.
