Are there any stand-alone or integrated phone devices that can detect
the stuttered dialtone that BT uses to indicate a message waiting on
their call minder service so you don't need to pick up the phone when
you come home to check?

I generally find out when I try to dial the ISP and my modem says "no
dialtone" :-)
