I should also have added that there is a table at:

with a very detailed list of
phones which work with Comfort.  I've got one ordinary phone which doesn't
work reliably- it's an old old old BT one (which was in the house when we
moved in!), which seems to work reliably when I press 'S' before '*', but
very unreliably otherwise... not sure why!
