Yes, althought the quality is never as good as "proper" CD rips.

No. As other have said, it's best to go through your amp, and record
the final output.
I have tried two approaches, both of which worked fairly well:
1) Use "Spin Doctor" an app that comes with Adaptec's Easy Cd
Creator,
specifically designed for burning vinyl to CD: the reuslts are okay but
the cleaning (to remove pops and scratches) takes >ages<
2) Use Sound Forge, a totally awesome app that can clean the sound to
the level where the quality is almost as good as CD. (certainly to the
same standard as an AAD cd) It also cleans the sound.
as for hardware, a decent sound card makes all the difference. I have a
creative labs SB Live value in my PC, and reuslts were good. My mate
used the sound card in his laptop, and the sound quality was poor in
the extreme.
