I was just concerned that

1. It was generally ok (excluding the fact that I'd left out the SOA
detail)
2 . the fact that the

mail.automated.it.     IN     MX     1  mail.automated.it.

pointed to a CNAME not an IP. I assumed (danger Will Robinson, danger)
that it would resolve back to the automated.it A record but wasn't sure
and wanted clarification..


At the moment I'm just trying to get it all right in my head before taking
the plunge. I've decided that I'd rather just use a caching DNS server
locally and use either a pay or free DNS service to be the SOA. Some (the
ones I'm interested in) services will allow you to define your own records
from a browser/email.

What I'm really after is somewhere that offers this flexibility but that
has a low TTL is a change has been made.. after which the TTL could go up
(if you get my drift).


Thanks for the example, but because your ftp and www point to IP addresses
rather than CNAMEs it's caused me to be doubly unsure on number 2. above.

thats one of my dns files if its any use, ips have been changed, but note
that mail. is a seperate machine.
