PARDON
!
No.
Its Keith " I cant detect ANY difference " Doxey.
Most
of the music I listen to was recorded when the spec of Studi equipment was
lower than that of mid priced domestic equipment now. The music that is
more
modern and has been recorded on digital equipment usually has samples of
some
old track in it anyway and sometimes even deliberate "worn vinyl"
sounds.
I'm
not saying that there isnt a difference, there probably is, but it would be
down
t the quality of the DAC nt were it was.
If you
have a good power supply and a high quality DAC then you will get good
results,
if you have a £40 CD player there is no way in the world that the quality
can be
the same as a DAC that costs >£40 just for the processing chip. This
applies
t all areas of electronics but there comes a point where any improvement
can
only be detected with sophisticated equipment at which point why get any
better?
Many
people prefer Valve amps for the sound. Where valves score highly is when
they
are abused. The distortion they introduce is much softer than that of a
semiconductor amp but by the time you get t distortion stage you are NOT
listening t the original signal anyway.
The
most important thing for ANY sound system is that it is much larger than
you
will ever need. That gives you all the headroom you ever need t avoid
distortion. Several pubs that I have equiped have sound systems >
2kW.
They NEVER use all that power but at the same time they sound crystal clear
and
are very loud. They dont "S und Loud" because it isnt distorted but when
you try
t speak to someone and realise you are shouting then you know its loud. An
SPL
of upto 110dB on the noise meter also gives a pretty good indication
:-)
Keith
"well I am a bit deaf now" Doxey
A
very good question....and one t which my ears dont know the answer
:-)
Keith
Is that Keith
"speak
up I'm a bit deaf" Doxey speaking, or Keith the
cynic?
Tim
