We had a minutes silence (at the beginning of a hardware lecture on VLSI
design) the day after Freddie died.

It's kind of odd, but I'm too young to remember the day Kennedy was shot
and the only two "celebrities" for whom I can remember
"where I was when
I heard they'd died" were Freddie and Princess Di.

Ho hum, shows how old I am then. Hang on a minute - the same age as the
rest of you ;-)
