Tim have you looked at the Leopard/
Touchlinc
solution
for stand alone local control.
Costly but does mean that you can
control
everything from different locations
With the main screen in each area
optimised for local requirements
(I think I made that sound too
official)
I think you should look at having a HV
unit somewhere in the system
The ease it allows you to get local
control happening is awesome
Sending a X10
command which then triggers a macro can be very very
useful
And the advantage of HV is that if you
don't
fiddle with it, it just keeps working.
All of the above require no
electrician
input as they all plug straight into the ring main and
work
( well that's what it says on the
box J )

For once I'm actually going to
make an on-topic post!
My brother's just had an offer
accepted on a huge pile just down the road - so I'm going to have a
second attempt at creating a disabled pad from
scratch.
As both Phil (he who dies with
the
most toys wins) Harris, and James (toolbox) Hoy can testify, because I live
in
a relatively small and open plan area whole house audio isn't really
necessary, and I use a wireless LAN so I have no real need to run
CAT5.
I'm intending to use LD11s and
AD10s for every light in the place, plus curtains with a Marantz RC-5200 as
the
main controller. Rather than use clipsal push buttons for local control,
I'd actually like to use an X10 sending device located in three or four
strategic locations in the house. What's available that an electrician
would be prepared to fit as part of the house
wiring?
As this really is going to be a
ground up installation (we're basically going to gut the existing staff
cottage, and extend it), any suggestions for state of the art HA would be
gratefully received. Does Comfort for example have the relevant BS approval
for
insurance discounts? I'm not really into "hardcore" HA, I
actually prefer to push the buttons myself rather than have some built in
intelligence decide for me what needs to be turned on, but any ideas will
be
gratefully received.
I've already ear-marked an
area to be used for helicopter storage/workshop
