A1. A letter between "T" and "V"
A2. 1.75 inches so 45mm is about right but as it relates to 19 inch racks
the imperial measurement it the correct one to use.
1U = 1.75"
2U = 3.5"
3U = 5.25"
4U = 7"
5U = 8.75"
6U = 10.5"
They are the most common sizes of rack mounted equipment.
1U and 2U are the most difficult to rackmount as the fixings are at the
edge
of the panels and the cup washers extend beyound the extremities of the
panel ovelapping the next panel.

In the process of building myself a small rack, and was wondering if anyone
knew offhand what 1U was... I reckon 45mm......
