The CM12 _does_ have an on-board clock.
The one thing that ActiveHome does well is downloaded macros, but I agree -
replace it with Homeseer asap. (Just remember to clear the CM12 memory
before you start, or you'll get really confused trying to debug.)

Yes - don't use Activehome, use Homeseer instead! - you can DL a trial copy
from www.keware.com, it only costs $80 to register. The product is the best
piece of software there is for the CM12 - bar none, and the support is
absolutely brilliant. - It tracks sunrise & sunset & so will know
if it's
the middle of the night or not. (I can't remember, does the CM12 even have
an on-board clock?).
You do need to dedicate a PC to it 24/7 though, but there's really no
getting away from that if you want to do any of the clever stuff, as the
CM12 just isn't clever enough on its own...
