RE: PC IR emitters + software

I love my Homevision for its logic and I love my Pronto for its ease of
use.
Being spoiled by having a pronto, which is such an easy piece of kit to
use, I never did use the Homevision for serious IR work, maybe I'll take a
closer look at the capabilities.

I can foresee myself spending at least two days teaching Homevision codes
and replacing functionality in the pronto, that's why I figured starting
again with a PC-based IR solution.  I am a software developer and the lack
of "logic" in the Pronto is the main reason for my ePods grand
vision.

The only problem you will have is the output that you want homevision to
do,
the input using IR sequences is no problem as you have limitless number of
commands you can fire of. For instance

001 switch on amp1
002 switch off amp1
003 up volume amp1
004 down volume amp2
005 all amps off
006 living room lights to 75% side lamp to 100% Amp1 on, DSS on, TV on, Tv
to SCART1, DSS to channel 100
.
.
.
999 the sky is the limit

Remember that with the IR out from home vision you can reduce that by
putting some of the little used function in the pronto only, for instance
Increase / decrease contrast could be a direct command from the pronto
which
is ignored by HV the only downside is that you would have to be in the same
room as the appliance or have IR distribution. Using the sequence also
means
that you are using standard format IR which uses less space leaving all the
available memory for the transmission from HV

I should add there is a downside to the IR sequence, it take longer to
transmit the sequence.
