This was on the list a few weeks ago, I think it was Justin that mentioned a Dynamode PCI modem using an Ambient chip.

Problem was that it presented CLI only if the number was available. If it wasn't it presented nothing.

This modem is available from Simply Computers for £20+VAT. part no MD0219

They also d another Dynamode PCI one that I am using at the moment, MD 0206, same price.

I haven't tried the CLI yet though...

It comes down t cost, and the amount of stuff on my Pc - I like you could probably get away with - "we need a new modem dear" (current one is 28800 and now seems verys lowwww) and she would buy into that as she uses the web a lot.

 

Justifying a separate device to just do CLI is not really a possibility.

 

Asides from CLI I was hoping t use it t get rid of the answerphone, and use a script in Homeseer t playback answer phone messages

Have you considered a dedicate hardware alternative ?
Not sure how well this will integrate with Homeseer.
