No ... the use of the docking station is twofold.
1) Recharges the NiMh battery pack.
2) Gives you a "place" t leave the Pronto and always know where
to find it
again.
Otherwise the docking station serves no purpose ... the Pronto will do a
good three months on a set of AAs (assuming you don't go silly with the
screen backlight) and it comes with a programming cable t g between the
Pronto (not the docking station) and the PC (Serial Port).
