All this talk of extra comPorts set me thinking, dangerous I know!. I was
thinking about helping our newbie friends with the Spec for a low cost HA
PC. For the sake of argument lets base it on Micro$oft.
I think we should add rough prices/detailed URLs

OS: Windows 2000
TV Out Card (£50) (PCI Slot Required) - best t get good graphic card
instead!
Caller ID: Meteor (£80) (Add 1 ComPort)
Temp Monitoring: 1-wire stuff/TEMP05 (£50) (Add 1 ComPort)
X10: CM12 (£50) (Add 1 ComPort)
IR Control : IRMAN (Add 1 ComPort)
Programing: for Pront /T uchlinc/HV (Add 1 ComPort)

HA Software: Homeseer ($80)/ HAL2000

Recommended Kit:
Pront (£150)
KAT5
HV

Any thoughts...?
Maybe we could have a newbie recipie kit on Marks Site? For specific areas
we could refer to those who have "Been there, Done that" and who
are willing
to answer specific questions or offer additional help with setup advice.
