Again its all relative.

the average flourescent tube will last 8000 hours. If its only ever used
for
2 hours per day it will last 4000 days = 10.95 years. If its in a location
where its on 24/7 it will fail after about 333 days or 11 months.

Another pub where I do some work replaced all the lights above the bar with
Compact flourescent units. He had major problems with the ballasts failing
because of the heat buildup over long periods. They were on for about 14
hours per day and everytime one failed it knocked the trip out plunging the
bar into darkness. Unlike when a bulb knocks the trip out and you just
flick
it back on, because the ballast had gone short circuit you couldnt turn the
trip on until you removed the faulty one. but which one ???  He now has
normal tungsten bulbs again.

the bulbs I have problems with are the bulbs in my ceiling fans. The
vibration causes the filament to wear through where it rests on the
supports. I think bulb life for one of the fans is about 2 months :-((

Ahhhh swapping lightbulbs....

Greatest success story has to be the folded flouro in my Mum's kitchen.

When they had just came out, I went out and bought one (a Phillips 60W
equivelant if I remember) and brought it home. I was still living at home,
at the end of my third year at university, which makes it Winter 1991, and
it is *still* going strong :)

She often comments that she has had to change (in her perception) Hundreds
of bulbs throughout the house, whilst this one just goes on and on and
on....

It will be a shame when it finally does fail, as it has been there longer
than any family pet we ever had!
