Hi all,

THIS IS A PERSONAL RESPONSE, NOT AN OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM MY EMPLOYER

There's been a lot of talk on the group in the last couple of days about
B&Q
and Screwfix (such as the mail below.)

First, let me declare my interest:

- I am systems manager for eKingfisher and therefore have some
responsiblity
for the B&Q ( www.diy.com <http://www.diy.com> ) and Screwfix.com
sites
- I am a very satisfied customer of letsautomate.com, and have found Mike
to
be very helpful

I think that you're being unfair on B&Q here. The phrase "try
asking a B&Q
muppet how to control...." could be replaced with "try asking 75%
of the
long-standing members of the Home Automation mailing list how to
control....", and you'd probably get a answer of "don't
know" as well!

Letsautomate is a specialist supplier in home automation, and provides a
good value-added service in a very small market. However, I'd be interested
to see whether Mike still manages to give the same level of advice in 10
years time when he opens his 100th branch!

- B&Q operates a telephone helpline from 7am to 11pm (0845 309 3099),
and an
web question line ( www.diy.com <http://www.diy.com> - select
"contact
B&Q")

- Similarly, a number of questions have been asked about Screwfix products.
Screwfix likewise have a phone number on 0500 41 41 41. They have an email
address instead of a web form - online@xxxxxxx
<mailto:online@xxxxxxx>

While I don't expect the B&Q helpline to have heard of Homevision, I
would
expect Screwfix to be able to answer the questions about their generators!

In summary, if I were buying a CM12U (as I have) or a Homevision (which I
might soon), then I'd go to letsautomate. However, I'd still buy the vast
majority of electrical stuff from, say, a B&Q or a Screwfix.

Regards,

Mark

B&Q Basingstoke do too...

...however Laser.com and LetsAutomate.com are cheaper than the B&Q
prices
(IIRC) and they know what the Swish stuff is (and how it works) as opposed
to "Really? We do electric curtain rails? Oh so that's what they
are!" Which
is what I got in Basingstoke!

Try asking a B&Q muppet how to control a K4/600 from a HomeVision and
see
what you get.

Phil

My local B&Q warehouse (Reading) has tons of rails in stock, no motors
unfortunately

www.laser.com <http://www.laser.com> have just had a
delivery...

I think they have quite a number of K600 motors left (I think I just
cleared
them out of K400 motors I'm afraid). They have also a decent stock of rails
so there should be no problem covering what you need.

Cheers

Phil
