Orinoco RG with non-Orinoco LAN cards

Has anyone been successful in getting the Orinoco residential gateway
to interoperate with non-Orinoco PC cards?
My Compaq cards will associate with the gateway, but the connection
is then junk - it picks up the wrong IP address from DHCP and can't
route. Setting the address manually to something in the 10.0.1.x
range doesn't seem to help.
After a bit of fiddling, it seems that the card will associate
irrespective of the WEP encryption password, and I suspect this might
be the root cause of the problem - perhaps the Compaq & Orinoco cards
use the passphrase in a different manner to generate the encryption
key?
Any suggestions?
I'd really rather like to turn WEP off completely (and change the
SSID of the Orinoco gateway too, whilst I'm at it), but the supplied
software doesn't seem to give me any control over the gateway
whatsoever. If anyone know the secret, I'd love to hear...
Thanks
Patrick
