Mmmm....food for thought there - and a project or two!

Never thought about the feedback loop one though, I see your point. As for
putting IR emitters inside an appliance, well that's one I never thought of
before now :o)

If you have any form of Multi room IR repeater in use, there is a danger
when using blasters that the signal will be picked up by a reciever and a
feedback loop created which will lock up the system.

Also with a blaster the signal can bounce off many surfaces and arrive at
slighty different times on each path thereby confusing the equipment.

Hi-Power IR LED's are available for about 70p from M***** ( or they were
last time I bought some). The secret to blasting IR is very high pulses of
current through the LED's using multiple IR LED's in series.

My prefered method is Individual emitters. Much more reliable and
controllable. If you follow the IR tutorial on my website you can build
your
own. You dont need to stick them on the front, if you are careful you CAN
mount them inside the equipment as long as you observe electrical safety
and
moving parts......BUT AT YOUR OWN RISK !
