That would be until flat but somewhere along the line you need a big wad of amps for 10 secs to start.

Typical car battery is probably around 50Ah, and your typical laptop battery
is probably 2-3Ah.  If we say your laptop runs for 2 hours on its 2.5Ah
battery, then it'll run for 2x(50/2.5) hours which if my maths is good today
is 40 hours.  Obviously, how long your laptop runs for, and the size of the
batteries is variable.  Quick formulae...

time on car battery = h(c/l)

where:
h = time your laptop runs for
c = car battery capacity (Ah)
l = laptop battery capacity (Ah)
