It's good to be back in the
fold
again - I've been having email system problems. For the benefit of
Nick
Gunn, who I hear is trying to get his fingerprint scanner to work on a
domain, I
thought I'd send this little snippet I got from Microsoft, you may find it
interesting. It contains the Windows XP Fast User Switching Biometric Logon
dll,
which is used by vendors to create xp compatible biometric software. As
when it
comes to the domain, well, that is explained later, but I will be posting a
copy
of a sample GINA from the microsoft website if I get
time.
Thank you for your interest in Fast User
Switching.
As Windows XP has been released to manufacturing, we are
sending
you an updated version of biologon.dll. The code is identical to the
binary that you have received, but this one is built from final RTM
sources. The zip file contains the biometric authentication dll along
with
a quick explainer of what interfaces are available to you with this
DLL.
Basically, this DLL will allow you to use Fast User Switching to either log
on
users or switch between logged on users.
Please note that the licensed DLL only works when the
machine is
NOT joined to a domain. If you want to handle the domain case, you will
need to
replace the GINA altogether. Since the Welcome screen and Fast User
Switching
are not available on domains, you won't break compatibility. But, if your
software will support both workgroup and domain scenarios, you will make
sure
that you haven't replaced the GINA on workgroup machines.
In order to use the licensed DLL, you need to create a
service
and run it as system with the TCB privilege.
Thank you.

Updated Biologon.dll
Please find attached an updated
biologon.dll. Some of the file version data on the version I sent you
is
incorrect. Please use the attached version from now on. The
code is
identical to the binary that you have received.
Thank you.
