In EzBoard's case I believe they host the board. Not sure about
any costs involved in them running the board though.
They have this Community Support Chest programme for
contributions. I find their s/w so good that I happily pay a ~$7 fee
twice a year for slightly enhanced user-end s/w.
The big thing for me is that EzBoard shows me what threads have
NEW messages since I last marked the forum 'read'. If I knew that
UBB did that I'd probably read some of their boards, and others,
more often.
