Move your sofa and put the sub in your listening position ... play a movie.

Walk around the room standing in all the positions that you can think of
for
your sub and see how the bass sounds ... if it sounds bad then the chances
are it will sound bad if you swapped positions (ie sub where you are and
seated in your normal position) ... if it sounds good then you have a
pointer as to where to try.

Behind a TV is possibly not best as TV cabinets aren't the most rigid
things
and can rattle to hell!
