Thanks but I think things are now OK, at least for the moment....watch this
space!

I have gone in using safe mode and uninstalled the offending program and
all
seems OK and I can see the CD!

I have just taken delivery of a new burner and I will install that to the
same PC tonight.

I am now thinking of using Music Match to get the info from the web and do
the ripping, I will also try that later.
