You know that old (insert random piece of techno junk, e.g. 286 PC) in

garage? Well, I got ?50 more for it on Ebay than the new gadget cost,
so
really the new toy didn't cost anything AND I have ?50 to put towards
something else!
If you are really in the doghouse the ?50 'profit' can be used to take
SWMBO
out for dinner :-)
(You could be pushing your luck here if you come home with a 42"
plasma
though!)

Or, you could say the new toy was an end-of-line clearance bargain, and
make
up a ridiculously low price*
