Yup that solution would work - only problem is I don't have any laptop psu'= s
nor the knowledge to put a regulator on it - i'd end up blowing it up.
Anybody care do take this on?

Just a thought, what about using a laptop PSU and just having a small
regulator board inside the case. Not the most elegant Solution
admittedly but you would easily be able to generate the correct
voltages with a couple of regulators.

Assuming you haven't got any drives in the box I would think this
would provide enough power and without a fan in sight!
