OK, let's coordinate exactly what hardware we're intending to bring in order
that 6 of us don't all turn up with an 8 port switch, but no-one brings a PC
to plug in to them!

I'm just about to phone the venue to ask about the possibilities of:

a) getting into the room in advance to set up networks etc.
b) leaving kit there overnight and collecting the next day.

Ian, WRT getting the archive HDD's online, I imagine the simplest/cheapest
way would be for one of us London-based guys to take along a desktop PC base
unit and hook them up in that, then put it on a wired network.

I don't think I happen to have a compact size desktop PC case ATM - just
tower boxes, - (oh and SWMBO's bookcase PC, but she'll be none too happy to
see that go missing for a few days!) - How many physical HDD's are you
talking about Ian? - 2? - 4?. I do have at least 2 "spare" reasonable spec
PCs sitting idle at the moment, (Celery 533's), and I'd have no objection to
taking either (or both) of them along to be a server.

In fact, lets get a list of hardware that we have "spare", - I'll start
with:

2 x Celery 533 midi-tower PC's, fully built & ready to run
1 x 8 port 10/100 hub (not switch)
1 x Tosh Tecra 550CDT laptop
1 x 17" SVGA monitor
1 x manual KVM switch (ie clunky type!) complete with cables
USB hubs
PC speakers
and more "bits" of PC's than I know what to do with!

The above is all "spare" in that I can bring it along without disturbing
anything that's actually in use at my house. I could also manage a WAP11 AP
without *too* much trouble, - although I would have to reconfigure it...
(MAC's are restricted to mine only!)

We'll also need power distribution, - plugstrips & so on...

I'm happy to coordinate this stuff, - but let me speak to the venue first, -
it might all be academic!

Paul G.
