Well, my version doesn't. Nor do they work under Outlook 98 or Outlook
2002/XP. Are you sure that Outlook highlights them as links?

IE autocorrects them.

Wish I knew. In fact, try typing URL in Outlook XP (with autocorrect
on)
using \\ instead of // and see what happens :-)
