I've got the Sb Audigy card, but it doesn't (seem) to have a line out - just the
3 jacks for the 5.1 speakers, an aux in and a mic (& firewire).  Am I missing
something?

I use a SoundBlaster Live! and do something similar. You can control the
line output seperately to the main speaker output. Might be worth
looking into.
