Indeed I have taken the dive and bought HomeVision. My current
project is
to link Comfort and HV directly and cut out the computer in between.
Although I have heard that ACE does a fine job at interfacing the two via
a
computer link. I shall probably still use ACE for Text to Speech etc.
but
wanted something a bit less reliant on the PC for my main system.
In my set up comfort takes care of all the security features; PIR, door
contacts, Away and Night mode and a small amount of X10. With HV
doing all
the fancy X10 stuff. For me the big bonus of comfort is that it acts
as
the answer phone, dial out in the event of trouble and can handle a
fair
array of programming commands i.e. if it is dark, the house is in home
mode, the back gate is open and their has been no movement in the back
garden for 5 minutes play announcement 1 "Back gate left open" or
similar.
Of course you could achieve all this with HV and a PC but having into a
dedicated alarm box that can do it is even better.

Hi Steve
Just had
a look at your site was interested in having a look
at that box sinker .It appears to make a nice clean hole ,havent heard
of
anything like that here in Australia .I see you took the dive and
bought
Homevision ,i have just emailed an order to Rod Stephens of digihouse
for
Homevision and a couple of modules to start with. How do you find
comfort
alarm system ?Here it is actually dearer than Homevision .I like the
intercom feature and the x10 as well but as an alarm system i believe
the
Australian alarm panels would be hard to beat.Im of course biased a
little
as my good friend John Hola designs and manufactures the Genesis Alarm
system which i use.

I have some pictures of the box sinker in action. Well worth the
money, a
bit messy though.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cooperhouse
then goto Home Automation on the
top menu and Box Sinker on the side menu.

Conduit installation
Please respond

Aidan,
IMO the box sinker is more worthwhilst than the
chisels - they are ok, but I finbd it more efficient to
cut two tracks up or along the wall with a normal flat
sds chisel first, then use one of the conduit shaped
ones to clean the slot out.
