Solved it. I noted on the MS site that it said:

The msxml3.cab file then downloads the MSXML 3.0 SP2 DLLs
(msxml3.dll and, depending on the platform, msxml3a.dll or
msxml3r.dll) to the user's system folder and registers MSXML 3.0
SP2 on the user's computer

The keyword there was "registers" ... as soon as I read that I went
and regsvr32-ed the xml DLLs, and hey presto, the Fuji now works
perfectly.

But I did restart IE6, so who knows if this was the actual solution...

Oh boy, I can't wait for the SonicBlue now.
