re: reliable IR over Cat5

Finally gotten around to sorting out my IR cat5 distribution.

 

I have purchased the IR distribution amp from Keene and am now about to modify it for use over cat5 as others have done (see thread benath this message).

 

Before I start cutting up cables and making a mess - I would just like to check how others managed this.

 

I have to cut the jack plug from the receiver end off and attach a cat5 plug - I assume when cut, this wire has three connections - two signal cables and the outer sheath braid - how did people attach these to the cat5 and in which particular order?

Yep exactly what I done. No problems with interference but a good idea is to
earth the unused cores so they do not act as an ariel picking up unwanted
RF, and don't plug the wrong patch lead in or you may fry your network :o

I assume you cut off the receiver end and replaced with an RJ45 plug?
Do you have any problems of line interference?

So I would also need to make up a RJ45 to 3.5mm jack patch cable to
connect to the amp/patch panel at node 0.

If you want a cheaper alternative try the kit from Keen, I have a
receiver
feeding off to two transmitters via a distribution amp, these work a
treat
over 20 mtrs of CAT5. CPC sell the kit of amp, two TX, PSU and RX for
about
£40.00 +VAT.
