YES!!!
The home owner is solely responsible for the welfare of any occupants of
the the property, regardless of their right to be there. If you implement
a device which prevents them from leaving your property, they can have you
charged with false imprisonment.

If the dog bites or otherwise injures the intruder, it will be destroyed
and again you could be charged or sued.

Personally I would like to implement a system based on the sight and track
systems from advanced gunships. Burglar doesn't get his finger on
the scanner within 30 secs of the the request and his heat signature
doesn't match an authorised user ... out pops the chain gun and, well ...
:-)
Incidentally, I don't agree with the legal inadequacies in protecting your
property ... don't know if my idea gave that away or not.
