I'll chuck in my 2p worth.

Picture quality is a major issue to me. I wouldn't give cable houseroom.

If you have any desire to watch sport, neither cable nor the soon to be
defunct ITV digital (you were right James :)) show flagship events in
anamorphic widescreen. (I hate footy, but watch a lot of rugby and
cricket). The difference between anamorphic and 4:3 stretched to fill
the screen is very obvious in terms of quality on me plasma, even though
the stretching software is pretty good.

I'll put my recommendation in for Sky/Pipex.  Sky is fabulous, never a
problem..My GF has NTL Digi - crap interface,picture shoddy compared to
Sky,
some 4:3 where 16:9 is available, shocking CS.

Pipex ADSL had been great too - only been down once for 1 minute or two
since wires-only launched.
