RF attennuation by trees

Since the recent rainy spell, it appears that three large Leylandii 
trees in my garden have sucked up just enough water to attenuate the 
signal from my wireless security devices. Being digital, it's just 
fallen below the threshold and woun't register at all. Anyone else 
experiencing difficult RF links outside might want to investigate 
this possibility.

Luckily I had already suspected the RF link might be dodgy at the 
distance I was running, and had pre-installed cabling. I just hadn't 
expected to be wiring it up at 2am to avoid loss of security...

I do remember a previous house where line-of-sight from the TV aerial 
to the transmitter was through a number of giant deciduous trees, and 
you could always tell when it was the growing season by the noisier 
signal!
