xAP - your daily digest - 28th August...
Been a few days since the last "daily" digest.
The big news was, of course, the first "public" xAP demo - over a
WLAN in Glasgow. We were able to ALL see messages on our laptops when Ian
pressed a button on his X-10 mini controller - which sent X-10 over the
mains to a CM12U - which sent xAP over the WLAN.
In addition, we have some more applications in Alpha:
- PPC xAP terminal (send and receive)
- TiVo message support
- xAP over SNAP
- xAP hub for Linux reference code
- A Rabbit-based learning remote, that learns IR signals, and rebroadcasts
them on receipt of an xAP message
The xAP website should be up and running in the next couple of days...
... watch this space for the URL.
Regards,
Mark

The last two days have seen a flurry of activity in the world of xAP:
The new code released is the lines starting --- Special credit to Tony T,
and Ian Lowe for these new apps.
Between us, we now have the following working:
- An output plugin that tells the world when a new message has arrived
(Outlook 2k)
- An output plugin that tells the world when a new Calendar item reminder
is due (O2k)
- An output plugin for Meteor that tells the world that someone's calling,
and gives their no.
--- An output plugin for Windows that lets you type in an xAP message and
send it (for debugging)
- An output/input plugin that listens for a Meteor number announcement,
looks up the name, and tells the world that Name
--- An output/input plugin that controls the CM12, or broadcasts X-10
events received
- An input plugin that listens for that name, and speaks it with
text-to-speech
- An input plugin that displays on an LCD
- An input plugin that displays on a PC screen
--- Another input plugin that displays on a PC screen, this one in VB6
- RFC released which gives a formal draft specification, and should give
developers enough, IN A SINGLE DOCUMENT, to start on xAP-enabling their
applications.
Still some discussion going around, on the subject of hub architectures,
and the architectures for remote configuration management of embedded
control devices... more on that soon...
Regards,
Mark

OK - not really The xAP Holdings plc, but we've had discussions about
protecting the Intellectual Property :-)
