That's what we have.

How do you run this? Do you press a key on a pronto or something?
I don't really want to have to do this - not SWMBO friendly.

No, not tough. I don't want to a) introduce additional steps
(which seems
pointless) or b) overcomplicate things.
At the moment for example, SWMBO wants to go to bed.
She turns on the landing light, goes up stairs, into the bedroom, may or
may
not turn on the main light, turns on bedside light.
On way back to bathroom, turns out main light in bedroom.
Back in bed, she reads/watches TV until she wants to sleep, then she
turns
out the light.
When I come to bed, depending on if SWMBO is awake or not, I may or may
not
turn on a bedroom light, and I will turn off the landing light before I
retire.
This all works fine. (So why change it? Well, gotta use my PIR
for
something :-)
It would seem to me (and indeed to SWMBO) that it is a backwards step
rather
than a forwards one if the lights go off in the middle of reading
because
SWMBO forgot to wave her arm about or I come in late and do not want
to
disturb SWMBO and the lights come on blazing because the PIR detected
me.
Also, getting a blackout mask to get around this is also a step backwards
as
it was not previously needed.
I don't see the point of automating your home if you have to work your
life
around the automation rather than it fitting in you. Moreover, when
we have
guests staying, I do not want to have to give them a 1/2 hour tutorial
on
how to operate the house.
Ideally for me, a house can be operated via traditional means or via
automation and it should not a problem to mix the two - eg light on
automatically, off manually etc.

Yes I am allowed to turn on a light, but I sometimes choose not to.
At the
moment, WE are in control of what is on and when. If we do not
have
control, then the system needs to emulate what we would normally do (or
as
much as is necessary anyway).
I have often said X or Y is not compatible with my SWMBO, perhaps
painting
her as unreasonable. She is not unreasonable, she simply does not see
the
point of change for change sake, or the need to dig a remote out of
your
pocket to turn off a light when the actual real light switch is there,
just
inches from your hand.....
Thanks for your comments though - I didn't realise homeseer was so
flexible.
Did you have to write your own programs to implement this stuff, or is
it
just a case of following a few menus to set up the rules?
cheers,
Tony
