I thought that there are quite a few AV amps in the just over £200 category that take digital input including some Sony models. Richer Sounds did one themselves under a brandname that I have forgotten - was it Sherwood - I saw one a while back in one of their stores at £199. I suspect the quality of the amp is a little questionable but it did handle some basic digital modes and was a 5 channel.

As you will know as you already have an Audiotron (but for the benefit of other new owners like myself), the volume/bass/treble control only function on the analogue output, understandable & no big deal, however the analogue output plays a greater range of sample rate encodings than the digital which only supports 32Khz and 44.1Khz sample rates. The latter though covers most needs. Unfortunately I have found that the DAB recordings that I have made from the WaveFinder are at 48Khz and this is not supported on either the digital or analogue outputs. I haven't got around to a direct hookup from Audiotron to DabBar yet but I am sceptical now as to whether this will work if 48Khz is the sampling rate used on all DAB broadcasts.

Just been round to the local Richer Sounds - that the same story they
told me there.

Now thinking about a pair of Numark M40 active speakers (100 quid)
using the analogue output of the Audiotron. First I'll go off and
listen to see if I can actually hear any artifacts on the Audiotron's
analogue output.....I've been using the optical connection on my other
Audiotron to my Sony AV amp downstairs.
