The MAX232 does all the conversion internally using a few capacitors for
the
voltage doubler & inverter.
If you're only connecting 9,12 to the powermax circuit, I'd suggest that
the
rest is probably as per the MAX232 data sheet - See P17 for sample
connectivity. (http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/arpdf/MAX220-MAX249.pdf)
The copyright is probably for the layout on their board :-)
