Scratch that I fixed it myself after much frustration.

After upgrading the firmware (old firmware suffered from dozing off it
seems) you need to reset the factory defaults. The the SNMP works well.

Except it couldn't change any settings. After more poking around I find
that the entries for the read/write passwords and read-only were the
wrong way around in their dialog!

Oh, and to get the Avaya Silver card working in my notebook I had to
turn off automatic resource allocation of my UBH Host Post or msgsrv32
stopped responding. Guess how easy this was to discover!

Anyone after a mere six hours of installation hell (the Avaya install
has missing files you need to skip, the Linksys install has a different
directory structure on the CD to what the manual refers to) I'm going!
Woo hoo!
