That sounds
good but
where did you get the 20mm conduit from? I have looked around and had no
luck.
Brother-in-law :) He uses it for running CCTV and alarm cables
in
as part of his job. You will need the correct tool to cut the thread
at
each end though, and the special end boxes. If you have any bends,
then
the bending tool is mega-bucks, although you can use right angle
boxes.
A
proper electrical wholesaler should be able to help you. The problem
with
PVC is that it will degrade due to UV light, although uPVC should be OK -
much
easier to work with too!
I am not going
to be
running CAT 5 every where at the moment.
Shame
on you!
The cable that I am installing is to run a second set of
speakers from my Denon AVR3801 receiver to play radio etc in the bedroom,
we
plan in install some ceiling speakers to keep it all
discrete!
What would be the best and cheap way of sending IR
downstairs,
I have spent a bit of time investigating this and the RF solutions do not
get
good reviews and the wired stuff is expensive, any
ideas?
Whilst
you're running the speaker cables, throw at least one CAT5 into the
conduit. Using 25mm uPVC stuff will let you get a few more in
:)
Then ask Ian Bird nicely for one of his IR remote extenders (as long as it
isn't
using IrDA) so that you can put the CAT5 to good use. Keith's KAT5 AV
modules will allow you to send AV along CAT5 too (with IR just round the
corner... hurry up Keith, Phil will be under your desk
again!)
Have a

be warned that I still haven't got a KAT5 as I don't have a TV in the
bedroom
with any form of AV input... It's all a bit limbo as I'm now
installing
CAT5 cable and doing things properly - wish I'd done it first time round,
but
there you go!
