check the mains filters.

If they are filtered plugboard inteded to provide a clean supply to PC's
then they will have whacking great capacitors in them to soak up any noise
(read X10 signals) on the mains.

Shut down all your PC's and remove the plugboards from the mains sockets
and
see what range you get then. Then one by one plug stuff in until you find
the culprit.

The basic problem is that anything with a switchmode PSU will generate
noise
on the mains power supply. To overcome this the manufactures fit filters to
soak it all up.

X10 is a deliberately introduced interference signal and will be absorbed
by
any such filters. If you have some kit that isnt filtered properly the mush
coming out of it will swamp the X10 carrier.

for a filter to work properly with X10 it need to be like this....



MAINS	- Filter ------- Equipment

L ----- CHOKE -------- Device L
CAP
N ----- CHOKE -------- Device N

The choke prevents th X10 signal getting as far as the Capacitor across L
&
N which would kill it stone dead.

It may also be that it isnt a single device causing your problems but a
combination of several devices eack of which is absorbing a certain amount
of the X10 signal until it drops to a level where it cannot propogate over
the mains wiring as you would like.

Hmmm, having serious issues here, any help welcome.

Situation:

We ran out of X10 Addresses. Everything was on House Code "F",
and we were
starting to use Addresses at 9,10 etc, which we could only control from the
8 in One remote, and couldn't automate.

So, decided the time had finally came, and split the house into
"E" and "F".
E= Lower Floor, F=Upper Floor.

A mini Timer in each room is used for control, with the same codes in each
room (roughly) so...

E1 is Audio in the Living Room, E2 is corner lamps
E5 is Audio in the Kitchen, E6 is under cupboard lights
F1 is the Bedroom Audio, F2 are Bedside lamps.

and so on..

Rapidly installing bits and finishing some DIY bits, I decided the time had
come to use the CM11, and Homeseer, and get it going for real.

Now, the problem I am seeing is this: The CM11 can just about manage to
push
a signal along two metres of mains cable, with a tailwind.

Other strangeness, the bedroom mini-timer didn't quite manage an all-units
off last night. it was "most" units off, with the furthest away
ones not
quite managing it..

Now, I have some  Filtered sockets for all my computer gear, but I have
made
sure the CM11 is straight into the wall.

What should I start checking?
